How we built this page. We read published 2026 benchmark reports and list only figures they state, with the source next to each table. The India figures come from agency and vendor data, not an independent study, so treat them as ranges to sanity-check, not promises. We have not added our own client numbers here.
What cost per lead (CPL) means
Cost per lead is what you spend to get one enquiry: total ad spend divided by the number of leads. If you spend ₹30,000 and get 60 enquiries, your CPL is ₹500. It is the main number for lead-generation campaigns, but only if you also know how many of those leads become customers. (For the full set of metrics, see our guides on lead generation strategies and digital marketing budgets.)
Google Ads CPL by industry (US, 2026)
The largest dataset we found is WordStream's 2026 Google Ads benchmarks. It covers 13,474 US search campaigns between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026, combines Google and Microsoft Ads, and reports medians. The overall average CPL is $66.69. These are US dollars for US advertisers, so they show how industries compare to each other, not what you will pay in India.
| Industry | Average CPL (USD) |
|---|---|
| Arts & Entertainment | $26.84 |
| Automotive repair, service & parts | $29.96 |
| Restaurants & Food | $30.57 |
| Animals & Pets | $31.50 |
| Beauty & Personal Care | $39.25 |
| Physicians & Surgeons | $40.04 |
| Travel | $44.70 |
| Shopping, Collectibles & Gifts | $49.40 |
| Personal Services | $54.60 |
| Health & Fitness | $67.36 |
| Dentists & Dental Services | $72.97 |
| Finance & Insurance | $74.44 |
| Education & Instruction | $77.48 |
| Home & Home Improvement | $90.92 |
| Business Services | $93.69 |
| Apparel / Fashion & Jewelry | $97.51 |
| Real Estate | $102.51 |
| Furniture | $106.70 |
| Attorneys & Legal Services | $131.63 |
Source: WordStream, 2026 Google Ads Benchmarks. The pattern is clear: low-ticket, local, quick-decision services sit at the bottom, and high-value or high-competition services such as legal, furniture and real estate sit at the top.
Meta (Facebook and Instagram) CPL
Meta leads are usually cheaper than Google leads, because the audience was not searching for you. Two published reference points:
- Birch live trackers, July 2026 (via Whatagraph): Facebook CPL about $34.64 and Instagram CPL about $47.93, across all industries.
- WordStream's 2025 Facebook benchmarks (as reported by the same page): restaurants and food generated leads for about $3.16 each, while dentists and dental services paid about $76.71. That 24-times gap is why one industry's number is useless for another.
What leads cost in India (INR)
We could not find an independent, India-wide CPL study. The figures below come from one Indian agency's compiled client data and from a real-estate software vendor. They are useful as rough ranges, and they do not always agree with each other.
| Industry | Google Ads CPL | Meta Ads CPL |
|---|---|---|
| Home services | ₹100–300 | ₹80–200 |
| Healthcare / clinics | ₹250–600 | ₹150–350 |
| Education / EdTech | ₹300–800 | ₹150–400 |
| Finance / insurance | ₹400–1,200 | ₹250–600 |
| Real estate | ₹800–2,000 | ₹500–1,500 |
Source: OwlClaw, India lead generation benchmarks (the agency's own client data, 2025). By campaign type on Meta in India, the same publisher lists ₹150–350 for instant lead forms, ₹250–500 for traffic to a landing page, ₹100–250 for WhatsApp and Messenger, and ₹80–180 for retargeting ads (source).
For real estate specifically, Sell.do's 2026 guide gives wider working ranges of ₹150–2,000 per lead on Meta and ₹300–2,500 on Google Search, and calls them "sanity checks, not targets" (source). Notice that this overlaps with, but is not the same as, the table above. That spread is the honest picture: real CPL depends heavily on the city, project, offer and tracking.
The lowest and highest CPL in the data
- Lowest: about $3.16 per lead for restaurants on Facebook (US), about $26.84 on Google for arts and entertainment (US), and around ₹80 per lead for Indian home-services or retargeting campaigns on Meta.
- Highest: about $131.63 per lead on Google for legal services (US), and up to ₹2,500 per lead for real estate on Google in India.
Niche B2B and very high-value services can run far higher, but we did not find a named 2026 source for those, so we do not quote a figure.
Why your CPL can be very different from these numbers
- What you sell: a higher price or longer decision means a higher CPL.
- Platform and intent: Google reaches people already searching, so leads cost more and are closer to buying. Meta is cheaper but needs more follow-up.
- City and competition: metro keywords and busy auctions cost more.
- What counts as a lead: a form fill, a WhatsApp message, a phone call and a qualified enquiry are different things with different prices.
- Offer, creative and landing page: they change the conversion rate, and so the CPL, more than most targeting tweaks.
- Tracking: without call and form tracking you may be paying for leads you cannot see.
Why CPL alone can mislead you
A ₹50 lead that never picks up is worse than a ₹500 lead who buys. Always read CPL next to the lead-to-customer rate. As a simple illustration (not a benchmark): at a CPL of ₹500 and 1 in 10 leads becoming a customer, each customer costs ₹5,000. If a customer is worth ₹20,000 in gross profit, that is a good deal; if it is worth ₹3,000, it is not, whatever the CPL looks like.
How to lower CPL without hurting lead quality
- Fix tracking first, so every call and form is tied to a campaign and keyword.
- Use the search terms report on Google to block irrelevant searches.
- Test a clear offer and a fast landing page before raising budget.
- On Meta, test several creatives and refresh them when frequency rises and CTR falls.
- Reply to leads quickly. Slow follow-up quietly raises your real cost per customer.
- Qualify in the form or on WhatsApp, and review lead quality with your sales team every week.
How Digital Berries approaches lead generation

Frequently asked questions
What is a good cost per lead in India?
There is no single good number. It depends on what you sell, the city, the platform and what counts as a lead. Published Indian ranges are wide: from roughly 80 to 400 rupees for home services, education and healthcare enquiries on Meta, up to about 1,200 rupees for finance on Google and about 2,000 rupees or more for real estate. A good CPL is one that keeps your cost per customer below what a customer is worth to you.
Which industry has the highest cost per lead?
In the largest published Google Ads dataset we found (WordStream, US campaigns), attorneys and legal services had the highest average CPL, followed by furniture, real estate and apparel, fashion and jewellery. In India, real estate is repeatedly named as one of the most expensive categories to generate leads in.
Why is CPL usually higher on Google than on Meta?
Google Search reaches people who are actively looking for a service, so each lead is closer to buying and advertisers bid more for it. Meta shows ads to people who were not searching, so leads are cheaper but need more nurturing. A lower CPL on Meta does not automatically mean a lower cost per customer.
Is a lower cost per lead always better?
No. A very cheap lead that never answers the phone costs more than a pricier lead that buys. Track cost per qualified lead and cost per customer, not CPL alone, and check lead quality with your sales team every week.
Can Digital Berries tell us what CPL to expect for our business?
We can give a realistic range for your industry, city and offer after reviewing your website, tracking and sales process. We will not promise a CPL before we see your account, because benchmarks are only a starting point. Book a discovery call and we will walk through it.
