What is changing
Meta has notified advertisers that, starting October 28, 2026, it will add product browsing to Facebook and Instagram ads that are already running, unless advertisers opt out before that date. The notice was first shared publicly around October 14, so most advertisers have had roughly two weeks to act.
Product browsing itself is not a new feature. What changes is the default for existing ads: the setting moves from off to on, and anyone who wants the old behaviour has to opt out. Meta says in-app product browsing leads to around 3% more conversions on average.
What people will see when they tap your ad
When someone taps your ad, they may now see a page inside Facebook or Instagram showing your product information and personalised suggestions, before they reach your website. Meta lists product browsing as one of four optional ad destinations, alongside Shops, optimise website destination and browser add-ons.
In simple terms: if you do nothing, a Meta page may sit between your existing ads and your website.
Should you keep it or opt out?
There is no single right answer. It depends on how your funnel and tracking work, so test on your own account.
- Clean, complete product catalog with sales across many products: consider keeping it. Shoppers can browse more items without leaving the app.
- Offers, bundles or landing-page messaging that live only on your website: consider opting out. The Meta page may skip the message your site carries.
- You judge ads by website landing-page or GA4 data: consider opting out, or test first. An extra Meta page before your site can change what your reports show.
- Lead generation or service businesses: check whether the setting applies to your campaigns, as the notice does not name the objectives covered.
- Not sure: opt out on your key campaigns and test product browsing on one, then compare results.
Checklist before October 28
- Open Ads Manager and look for Meta's product browsing notice.
- List which live ads send people to offers or pages that only exist on your website.
- Check that your product catalog is complete and prices are correct.
- Decide: keep product browsing, opt out, or opt out on most and test on one campaign.
- If you opt out, do it before October 28 using the option in the notice.
- Note your current conversion numbers so you can compare after the change.
- Review results again after one to two weeks.
What is still unclear
As of mid-October, Meta had not published a Help Center article, changelog or newsroom post about this change. The notice does not say:
- Whether ads created after October 28 will also start with product browsing on.
- Which placements or ad formats are affected.
- Which campaign objectives are covered.

Frequently asked questions
What is Meta product browsing?
Product browsing is an ad destination where people who tap your ad see a page inside Facebook or Instagram with product information and personalised suggestions, instead of going straight to your website.
When does the change start?
Meta's advertiser notice says product browsing will be added to existing Facebook and Instagram ads starting October 28, 2026, unless advertisers opt out before that date.
Does it apply to new ads too?
The notice only mentions existing ads. It does not say whether ads created after October 28 will also start with product browsing switched on, so check new campaigns as you create them.
Should I opt out?
It depends on your funnel. Brands with a clean product catalog may benefit from in-app browsing. Brands whose offers, bundles or tracking depend on their own website pages should consider opting out or testing on one campaign first.
Can Digital Berries review my Meta ad account settings?
Yes. We manage Meta ads for brands across Mumbai and India. Book a call and we will check your live campaigns and help you decide whether to keep or opt out of product browsing.
